Neapolitan Cuisine is without doubt the most celebrated Italian cooking style with the use of their local fresh produce that isir cultivated in the rich soil. The cooking of the region of Campania seems to symbolize the most stereotypical Italian cooking. Naples is birthplace to pizza and delicious hearthwarming breads, Growing up there was a truly a gastronomical adventure for us foodies. Here is a recipe for a simple Italian Bread. We have added a touch of my hometown with fresh mozzerella and basil and tomatoes. Basic Italian Bread Dough 4 1/2 cups bread flour 1 pk dry yeast dissolved in 2 cups luke warm water 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon sugar 4 tablespoons olive oil . Here are the instructions I hope you enjoy this like I did with my family. Mix until forms a ball, knead until smooth and elastic, add more flour if dough is sticky , this should not be dry but firm until a ball forms. Rise in a bowl covered with a wet towel, until doubled in size in warm spot, away from draft.... On a large cookie sheet that has been coated with oil or sprayed with a lighter coating, round rolls or two small bread loaves, which ever shape you prefer. I also use this recipe for pizza dough. Very versatile dough, just a little different directions Let rise for another 1/2 hour. Bake on 430 degrees until light brown about 20 minutes. Remove from oven. Cool. Mangia and Buona Salute !!!!

Creamy Buttercream with fresh Strawberries

Town Crier Bakery I have really gotten into experimenting with different buttercream flavors (Kerry is going to go crazy) in particular ones with fresh fruit. Shopping at some of our great local farms that we have in our beautiful Bucks County, we landed on strawberries. I must say, this is probably one of my favorite buttercream's I have EVER made. It tasted light and the sweetness came mainly from the strawberries. The flavor profile was perfect according to Krissy with a zest of fresh lemon and Madagascar vanilla brought this creamy fruit swirled buttercream to life. I’m glad that I posted about exercise earlier this week because you’ll want to go on an extra long run this week so you can enjoy seconds at Town Crier Bakery in Peddler’s Village (I know I did!). With the sweet scents of home-baked goods welcoming us, we arrived at Town Crier last week to learn more about their secrets to baking the perfect sticky buns.

Town Crier Bakery was opened by husband & wife power team Kerry & Roseann. Watching the video below, it’s obvious that they know their way around the kitchen. Kerry Burns had to drag his wife "screaming and kicking" from her full-time job into the business that was his lifelong dream.

When Kerry Burns was a teenager, his mother made him stop delivering newspapers because he had to get up too early.

To replace his lost income, Burns got a job washing pans in a bakery. In the process, he found his true calling - a profession that has him rising in the wee hours of every morning.

Burns and his wife, Roseann, own the Town Crier Bakery in Peddler's Village, where they sell cakes by the slice, freshly baked breads and sweet pastries to tourists and locals alike.

Over the past three years, the couple has had to roll with the punches, reinventing their bakery and positioning it to succeed through these tough economic times.

"We're simple people," Roseann said. "We're hardworking people trying to make it in these crazy times."

Owning a bakery has been Kerry Burns' lifelong dream. But it wasn't one his wife shared, until he took over the bakery at Peddler's Village, the retail and dining destination in Buckingham.

"I kind of blew him off," Roseann said. "It's never going to happen. Then one day this crazy man said, 'I'm doing it.' "

Not only did he buy the bakery and quit his job as a merchandiser for a group of local grocery stores, but Roseann quit her job, too, as an elementary school assistant.

"She's a Republican, and I'm a Democrat," Kerry said. "But when it comes to business, I'm more conservative; she's more cutting edge."

Kerry is the baking brains behind the operation. He's responsible for the counter shelves filled with cakes, pies, pastries, breads and other goods baked fresh daily.

Roseann, who entered the business "screaming and kicking," has become the public face of the Town Crier Bakery. She meets personally with every bride and prides herself with knowing exactly what a bride wants for her special day - sometimes even before the customer says anything. Her hunches are so dead on that her husband calls her the "cake whisperer."

"I found I have a creative side to me that I never knew I had," she said. "I love it."

The Burnses said they have had their share of rollercoaster rides. They were aggressive in building their business in their first year. During the second year, flour and fuel prices skyrocketed and the economy tanked.

This past year, the couple, who live in Plumstead, focused on building their local clientele base and improving their product selection. Because Peddler's Village is more of a tourist destination, they found that traditional bakery items - like fresh bread and pastries - weren't as strong sellers as items like cake slices and doughnuts.

They also hold daily deals, contests and giveaways to draw traffic. And so far, the hard work has paid off, they said.

"We feel pretty fortunate," Roseann said. "We live within our means. Our bills are being paid. We're surviving."

A new addition to our bread family. A prosciutto and Salami with cracked pepper bread. This is a super crusty, chewy "white" bread with an airy open-holed crumb with just enough of the meat filling thru-out the inside of the bread. Great dipping bread. I take some light olive oil and some fresh cut basil with just a squeeze of a fresh lemon. Salt and Pepper and of course some fresh garlic. I am a happy woman.

Town Crier Bakery Yesterday we had the pleasure of celebrating Christa's beautiful daughter 6th birthday at our bakery. Her friends from her school all joined in the festivities. The girls had a whirlwind tour of the bakery with our improv-baker Mr. Kerry and enjoyed pizza and drinks. Josanna's demonstration of how a barbie doll cake comes alive kept the girls at edge of their seats. When the demonstration was done the girls and our superstar birthday girl were all ready to create their own master piece with piping bags in hand all their creativity came alive. Extraordinary work girls I told Josanna she needs to worry !!! Finally we sang happy birthday to our birthday girl and the girls were treated to a special treat from our friends at Giggleberry Fair. They were so excited that they would be all returning to Peddlers Village and enjoying some fun at Giggleberry Fair.It truly was a magical day and all the girls and especially our birthday girl were just Fabulous.

One of my favorites of course being Italian is our Luscious Cannoli cake. You can actually smell the aroma of the dark chocolate ganache that is poured all over the cake as you are about to taste it. The inside is four layers of rich chocolate cake yes more chocolate that is filled with a rich creamy cannoli cream. The crushed cannoli shell adds the perfect amount of texture to each bite. Truly divine.

Irish soda bread is made with raisins that has a tough exterior but a tender tangy bite. I love to have it with some apricot-peach jam (Williams Sonoma) just delightful or you can really do like the Irish, enjoy it with some Irish Kerrygold butter. A fun tidbit I found out about the cross in the center of the bread made, is to let the fairies out and to ward off evil, so says Irish folklore. Well it snowed all night and today. We finally were closed for a day at the bakery which was nice for my husband to have a Saturday off. I was determined to make something that I love with my salad but usually cost me some extra points. Croutons I love croutons yes they are simple food but oh so good when done right. Crunchy and seasoned make your salad worth it when you take a forkful of salad and your croutons in your mouth it is a happy marriage to me. Store bought croutons are high in points so I decided to try making my own. Of course I used a loaf of the Town Crier Bakery french bread that I had brought home. The bread was a day old which was perfect for my crouton adventure a small one but still a adventure for me. I sliced the croutons keeping the cube together. You sprinkle with 1-1/2 tsp salt free seasoning and blend with 1 tsp of garlic powder. Bake until golden brown about 30 minutes. You can store up until a week. 6-8 croutons are only one point. Even a bakery can hold some surprises for us dieters.

My husband brought home a loaf of our mozzarella bread with tomatoes home. Well of course I was mad at him since I am on weight watchers and I have no self control when it comes to bread. Well I had saved up some extra points to cheat tonight.I took the loaf of bread and slice it up and while the oil olive was heating up Sasso Olive oil the best i used it in Itlay the aroma and smell when you are frying it up with fresh basil and garlic brings me back home to Naples. I took the slices of bread and grated some fresh locatelli cheese and sharp provolone and put it in the frying pan and let it sauté until it was a golden brown.When it was done a few more drizzles of oil olive and it was so good worth every point of it. Yesterday I decided to invade my husbands territory in the back of the bakery which means I entered the "no Roseann allowed bake zone". The back of the bakery where Kerry bakes is usually left up to the real bakers. Well I decided to let my self wander to the back and bring back some of the great memories of living in Naples, Italy flow into the breads Kerry was making today. When I lived in Naples, we would buy our breads at the local bread store just around the corner were every morning they would come out fresh from the brick ovens. The smells were savory and sweet. The fun part of it as a child was when my dad would bring the fresh bread home and we would lower the basket down from the apartment and pull it back up quickly ( few times I would get tempted to be naughty and swing it around)so we could pull apart the bread and slab butter on it yes butter. One of my favorite breads was a crusty bread that was filled with fresh tomatoes basil and roasted peppers with garlic and olive oil baked inside of the bread. Well let me tell you one way trip to a foodies divine adventure that makes you want to keep going back. I made the bread today and just added my spin on to it and added fresh mozzarella and enclosed. I truly was proud of myself and felt like I was back in Naples for even just a few minutes.

The Pie

I have never had a better pie than the one from Town Crier Bakery in Lahaska, PA. My parents and I enjoy going to Peddlers Village every year right before Thanksgiving to start Christmas shopping and pick up our pies for the holiday. Every year I crave for their apple crumble pie. I know that a lot of people are big on their pumpkin pies and other pastries but I cannot deny my need for this specific pie. It has a sweet moist crust with a perfect apple center and a gooey part cheese and sugar filling, with crisp cinnamon and sugar crumbles spread on top. The cheese might sound odd to you but it is AMAZING! What’s even more unique about this special shop is that they create, make and bake all of their treats from scratch. During the holiday season there are many bakeries and places to find your desserts but everything I have had from Town Crier Bakery has been delectable and delicious. It is a must try and their pies will soon be a must have for all of your holidays as well!

An old-fashioned “from-scratch” bakery is at Peddler's Village in Lahaska.

Town Crier Bakery aims to capture the essence of country kitsch, with 90 percent of its goods coming from fresh ingredients and homemade on the premises.

With eight years experience as a bakery merchandiser for 37 Genuardi's stores spanning Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, owner Kerry Burns knows his way around a bakery. He and his wife, Roseann, offer doughnuts lightly fried, cakes made from scratch and warm, freshly baked muffins and breads.

“Our mission is to offer fresh baked goods accompanied by high-quality friendly service,” says Burns. “We'll be here baking at 4 a.m. every morning to fulfill our promise.”

He says customer service also is a top priority.

I went here a couple weeks ago for a last minute cake. I got a chocolate raspberry pound cake and it was the hit of the dinner party. The cake was absolutely delicious. I stopped in again a few days later and they had all new cakes in the display, so they must keep everything fresh. Unfortunately they didn't have any more pound cakes but I did try their cakes by the slice.... Tiramisu cake was not bad at all. I will definitely be using them as my bakery from now on.

My Baker Scarecrow, Competition

I created this scarecrow for the competition and it had to capture what my business was all about. Well I thought why not make a baker and put my husbands picture on it. He is the baker of the Town Crier Bakery. Well we did not win but I was really happy with him. Sometimes having fun is worth more than the prize. Here is a spooktacular halloween cake. It was for a birthday girl and we made not to scary for her. The house looks wonderful and all the little ghost and goblins just made it perfect. Booperfect it was.
