The Pie
I have never had a better pie than the one from Town Crier Bakery in Lahaska, PA. My parents and I enjoy going to Peddlers Village every year right before Thanksgiving to start Christmas shopping and pick up our pies for the holiday. Every year I crave for their apple crumble pie. I know that a lot of people are big on their pumpkin pies and other pastries but I cannot deny my need for this specific pie. It has a sweet moist crust with a perfect apple center and a gooey part cheese and sugar filling, with crisp cinnamon and sugar crumbles spread on top. The cheese might sound odd to you but it is AMAZING! What’s even more unique about this special shop is that they create, make and bake all of their treats from scratch. During the holiday season there are many bakeries and places to find your desserts but everything I have had from Town Crier Bakery has been delectable and delicious. It is a must try and their pies will soon be a must have for all of your holidays as well!

How does a bakery spend his day !!!
Early to Bed, Early to Rise
Step 1:
Bakers typically don't get to watch the sun rise, they rise for it. Bakeries start producing the pastries, breads and cakes in the wee hours of the morning, every morning, to process orders for restaurants, delis, and retail stores. The baking day is filled with making breads, rolls, pastries, doughnuts, cakes, pies, and anything else that a particular bakery offers.
The Secret Recipe
Step 1:
Bakers store their cookbooks in their brains, and have to be able to calculate the amount of raw material (flour, salt and yeast.) they will need in order to complete all the items needed each day. Some bakers are responsible not only for making the baked goods each workday, but also for doing inventory, ordering, and keeping the bakery stocked throughout the week.
Am I Too Kneady?
Step 1:
A baker has to operate an assortment of kitchen items each day, including commercial-grade mixers, blenders and ovens, microwaves, stoves, cutting and slicing machines and air guns for cake decorating. In addition, a baker has to have a good strong back and the ability to lift heavy boxes and bags of flour (50 to 75 lbs or more).
Keeping it Real
Step 1:
Some bakers are also in charge of the staff, and therefore have to perform administrative daily duties such as hiring, firing, and training, as well. They can also be in charge of creating new products, bringing in new accounts, and other facets of marketing. Bakeries, as with any food service position, also require strict adherence to local health department guidelines for sanitation and hygiene, so a baker must always be cognizant of their own performance and that of their staff, to avoid contamination of foods, and violations of health codes. So much more than you can ever think !!!!!!!

Great Reviews at the Town Crier Bakery
I went here a couple weeks ago for a last minute cake. I got a chocolate raspberry pound cake and it was the hit of the dinner party. The cake was absolutely delicious. I stopped in again a few days later and they had all new cakes in the display, so they must keep everything fresh. Unfortunately they didn't have any more pound cakes but I did try their cakes by the slice.... Tiramisu cake was not bad at all. I will definitely be using them as my bakery from now on.

SOME WEDDING TIPS FROM THE TOWNCRIERBAKERY
We've all seen those glamorous, gorgeous wedding cakes in magazines that perfectly match the nuptials they're a part of. But how will you end up with the perfect wedding cake for you? Do your homework! Here are the steps you should take before meeting with any wedding cake designer or baker.
Research You've probably been reading magazines and saving pictures of favorite wedding cakes – if not, now is the time to do so. Save not only general large pictures, but also details. Then start comparing your favorites – what do they have in common? Are there any details such as sugarpaste flowers or fondant icing that are essential to you?
Consult with your future spouse Find out if you're on the same page about design, flavor, and budget. He or she may not care that much about what the wedding cake looks like, but think that raspberry filing is vital.
Have a general idea of other aspects of the wedding You'll want your cake to coordinate with other details, so be firm on things such as:
colors of the bridesmaid dresses
flowers you'll (likely) be using
other prominent colors
what your wedding cake budget is
approximately how many guests you'll have
the general style, theme, or formality of your wedding.
You'll probably also want to put together any questions you'll have. Once that is all done then call the TownCrierBakery for a consultation for your perfect wedding cake. 215-794-9910

MY new couch at the Town Crier Bakery
I am so excited my new comfy couch arrived at the bakery. I thought well why not give a spot to our customers that want to read the paper and have a hot cup of coffee and a hot fresh glazed donut in the morning. They can sit and relax and read or maybe look out the window and see the many changing fall colors in the village. Stop by and relax.

Wedding Cake At the Town Crier bakery
This beautiful Ivory wedding cake was a show stopper at her wedding. The cake was designed with a beautiful ivory lace design and buttons were added to make it seem like her wedding dress. The most important touch was the jewelry pin that was added that belonged to her grandmother and it meant so much to her. Like I said before I really love when the wedding cake has a personal story from the wedding couple. It almost becomes like a picture book to them. This is a custom made cake that was made for our customer.

Nothing is more enticing then the smell of freshly made Babka at the Town Crier Bakery at Peddler's Village in Lahaska, PA. If you cannot make it Peddler's Village for Babka, why not try baking some at home. There's a great recipe on RecipeZaar.com for Chocolate Babka. Let us know how yours turns out.

more wedding wire feedback
Wedding: 10/18/2008 Reviews: 5 |
My husband and I met with Roseanne and Carey, the owners of the Town Crier Bakery, to discuss our wedding cake. We quickly selected a design, with their help, and the personalized it to fit our needs. The cake was absolutely beautiful!! It was much more than we had expected. They also customized a cake/icing combination to satisfy our love of mint chocolate chip. They were very professional to deal with and gave us 2 free sample cakes along the way to help us make our decision. Very friendly, great service and reasonably priced. We highly recommend this bakery!! |
